Lake of the Ozarks

Ahhh, Stressless

A Stressless morning at the Lake of the Ozarks

Our friends have a home at the Lake of the Ozarks. In the early morning, before the sun rises high in the sky, before the speed boats take to the lake, when a gentle breeze stirs the leaves in the trees, when I think, for a while, I have the lake all to my own, the feeling is truly Stressless.

Stressless — calm, tranquil, peaceful and untroubled, serene and restful. She enjoyed a stressless hour of peace and quiet before everyone awoke. Stressless recliners, the ultimate in comfort and relaxation.

Pain in the Neck

Pain in the neck: someone or something difficult or annoying. Example — Writing long blogs on painful topics is a pain in the neck. This has the same meaning as “pain in the butt” or “ass,” pardon my French. Example — By noon, my desk chair has become a real pain in the butt.

Especially now, no one wants a pain anywhere, it’s just downright annoying.

Neck pain is a common complaint. Pain comes from poor posture — whether you are leaning over your computer, developing a pain in the butt, or picking up laundry and straining your back, it hurts.

The cure — Get Stressless, available in Overland Park and Wichita, and throughout Kansas.

Sundays should be Stressless

Stress n. a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances. I was stressed yesterday. I am stressed today. Work, the kids, the news, you understand, I see.

Stress is our body’s reaction to unfamiliar change requiring an adjustment or response. The body reacts with physical, mental, and emotional responses. Your heart rate increases, breathing quickens, muscles tighten, and blood pressure rises.

Sundays should be Stressless.

Falling trees and reclining sofas, Philosophy 101

Philosophy students are asked, If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there, does the tree make a sound?

The answer depends on how important human beings are to our understanding of Nature. Psychologists explain that waves travel through the air, but there is no sound unless an ear is there to hear it. But God in Her infinite wisdom sees all, know all. Let the philosophers argue over perception and reality.

Do not the deer, the birds, and the other animals of the forest flee when frightened by the crash and the noise.

Stressless asks, if a sofa reclines and nobody is there, is there comfort? Does it matter if it is a Motion sofa by Stressless?

The answer is clear – Stressless sofas are the ultimate in comfort, but only when somebody is there to experience the oohs and ahhhs. Stressless makes the most comfortable seating in the world with features other sofas can’t begin to imagine. The ultimate in comfort is achieved when the patented design features of Stressless permit you to sink more deeply into the sofa, adapting to your body, enveloping you in comfort.

As Albert Einstein said, “Information is not knowledge, and only knowledge gained through experience is wisdom.” Come to Traditions Furniture in Overland Park and Wichita and experience the wisdom that is Stressless.

Hit the Beach

Happiness is a walk on the beach.
We’re free to go where we wish and to be what we want.

Let’s hit the beach!

Kick off the shoes, feel what it is like to have your feet in the sand, let the sun’s warm rays shine down on your face, breathe deep and smell the ocean air. Out of the corner of your eye, catch sight of palm leaves swaying in the gentle breeze. As you walk along the shore, listen to the ebb and flow of the waves. Gaze at the horizon and take in the blue skies and white clouds. Observe the seagulls, wings outstretched floating on the wind. Imagine what it is like to fly.

You are not even there and yet, I sense you are relaxed, at peace, serene and stressless.

Now, do this at home. Get Stressless.

From the most creative furniture in the world comes Stressless, the most comfortable  sofas and chairs.

Things to do on Monday

Our new store hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 12 to 5 pm. We hope you got the message. If not, follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Instagram.

Things to do on Monday

Wondering what to do with a Monday Day Off, here are a few suggestions:

1. Get yourself moving, take a walk with the dog, ride a bike with a friend.
2. No dog, then visit an animal shelter. No friends, then you are working too hard and need a Monday Day Off to visit an animal shelter.
3. Tour a brewery or winery. Yesterday, Sunday, we visited the Walnut River Brewery in El Dorado visiting with locals in a small town who know how to live.

4. Sleep in, recharge your batteries, later, take a nap. Doing nothing, sometimes, means everything.

5. Start a blog, write the Great American novel, or just reach out with your thoughts. It’s cathartic, whatever that means for you.
6. Take a free online course. Exercising the brain is healthy. Better yet, be like my son and go for a run while you listen to a podcast. Pardon the metaphor, like killing two birds with one stone… Like, biking to work, works better, all around.
7. Try out a new recipe with family and friends. Scroll through cooking blogs for something unusual, leaf through food magazines for the fanciful, or call up grandma to hunt down an old recipe.
8. Feng shui your home as a way to improve your Chi. Don’t know what Chi is? Find out, it’s life changing.
9. Read a book. Sure, it is “old school,” but it is still the cheapest and easiest way to go on an adventure, visit the South Pacific, or fall in love.
10. If you are really, really bored, then clean out the garage and arrange the tools. Get ready for a weekend Garage Sale. This, I don’t like because it is too much like work.

Enjoy, as for me, I’m wearing boots and riding a bike!

sykkylven fjord

sykkylven fjord, norway
[Sykkylven fjord in sunny Møre og Romsdal county, leads to Ikornnes where Stressless recliners are designed and made.]

The fjord is not a tube of blue
So, don’t forget the gray and black
To paint the rocks along the shore
And here and there a dab of white

On the mountaintops to represent the snow
And in the distance
Gentle strokes of green mixed with brown
Where we keep our farm

Now, tilt your head right and left
Like all good artists do and

Take a sip of wine
Wait, my dear, don’t put down your brush

Please paint a patch of yellow for a house
A bit of red for the roof
A chimney made of brick
With smoke that curls to the sky

A home for you and me to watch
The coming of the tide

Wundervu, Colorado

Summertime, oh, summertime, life’s so sweet.

Summer mornings with nothing to do, cooled by a gentle breeze and grass at my feet, grass so green, so thick, it tickles bare feet, to my ears comes the steady sound of crickets hidden away, on the fence the squirrels run with reckless abandon, above birds perched on branches high above serenading me daily with their song, and the blue lake that beckons me for a swim.

Where did you go this summer? one asks.

To the lake with my friends, to Dallas to see my daughter, to Colorado to see my son. To Norway and Denmark, for two weeks of fun.

What do remember best of all? they inquire.

Wondervu, Colorado, and Eldora Lodge, tucked away in Coal Creek Canyon, on Highway 72 past Whispering Pines, along the drive from Golden to Nederland, where few care to go. Then off the grid on Gross Reservoir Road to who knows where.

All so long ago, like yesterday, hard to remember, impossible to forget.

Zen Thing

The world is too beautiful to talk about. It should be experienced.

I am simply sitting silently, witnessing the beauty of Nature, of life passing before me. Just witnessing, not interfering not even judging, because the moment you judge you have lost the pure witness, the pure enjoyment of the thing.

The moment is not lost on me. Nor is the place. It is the Oregon coast, Highway 101, south of Cannon Beach on the way to Manzanita. It comes back to me every time I sit in my Stressless recliner, close my eyes, and imagine my happy place. I can feel the mist rising from the ocean. I can smell the salt in the air.

I am Stressless and at peace.
