Why the header image, a heavenly view of mountain peaks leading down into a serene valley? Why the image of a lone hiker on a frozen landscape?
This is our introduction to Robyn’s Lake House, our Shangri La.
Shangri La is a place that has become synonymous with any earthly paradise. The concept comes from the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by British author James Hilton. It is a novel that was a product of the human tragedy of World War I, the economic effects of the Great Depression. Movie buffs will recall Lost Horizon, the 1937 film by director Frank Capra, starring Ronald Coleman, a film which took on new meaning with the onset of World War I.
Hilton’s Shangri La was an isolated green valley enclosed by unscalable mountains high in the Tibetan Plateau. It was a place where everyone lived in peace.
My vision of Traditions Home is a place of refuge, where one escapes to, to surround oneself with family and friends. This place may be cold or warm, it may be in the mountains or by the seaside. It is the place we call home.
Robyns Lake House
In part, because of this desire to get away that Traditions Home has created Robyns Lake House. This will serve as our Shangri La, our oasis in the desert, our earthly paradise beside a mountain lake.
