Venice – the Grand Canal

Who hasn’t wanted to go to Venice and take a gondola ride along the Grand Canal?

Venice’s Canal Grande snakes through the city of Venice, traveling a little more than two miles from Saint Mark’s Square at one end to a lagoon near the Santa Lucia rail station. This ancient waterway ranges in width from 100 to 300 feet. Along the route one glides by beautiful churches and historic palazzos built from the 13th to the 18th century, and passes under the Rialto Bridge, which until the 19th century was the only bridge to cross the canal.
